What to wear Coasteering?

Like any outdoor activity, having the correct safety equipment when Coasteering is a must. A coasteering session involves elements of climbing, scrambling and wild swimming so your gear will need to be up to the challenge!

When you join us for Coasteering in Newquay, you’ll be kitted out with the best gear to keep you warm and safe so you’re ready to jump in and get involved. Here’s our quick guide to what you will be wearing…

what do I need to bring coasteering?

You’ll need to bring:

• Something to wear under a wetsuit. (bikini/trunks)
• A pair of lace-up trainers you don’t mind getting wet and a towel.

*After years of Coasteering with a variety of fancy footwear options, we have found that your average old pair of trainers work best to keep you from slipping and sliding about too much.

Make sure you bring a pair with you for your Coasteering session. If you forget or simply don’t wish to lug around old wet trainers you can rent a pair from us.

What equipment is provided?

Full-Length Wetsuit

A correct fitting full-length wetsuit will help to keep you toasty warm whilst you immerse yourself in the cool Atlantic waters.

Neoprene wetsuits work by absorbing and then trapping a thin layer of water between your skin and the wetsuit. The more you move around, the warmer you get!

Shortie Wetsuit or Coasteering shorts

Shortie wetsuits or neoprene shorts are worn over the top of your full-length wetsuit to help keep you warm and to provide extra protection for you and your main wetsuit in the rugged coastal environment. During your Coasteering session you will be spending a lot of time in the water, having that extra layer of neoprene adds an extra layer of comfort.

Buoyancy Aid

A good fitting buoyancy aid or Personal Floatation Device (PFD) is essential to Coasteering. Even if you’re a strong swimmer, you’ll love the feeling of effortlessly bobbing around with a little extra ‘float for your boat’.

Buoyancy aids are a great piece of kit that not only helps you float whilst swimming, it also helps to send you back to the surface after a taking on the challenge of a deep water jump.

Helmet

Coasteering Safety is paramount, and nothing is more important than protecting your head – you’ve only got one! Coasteering is a dynamic activity in and around rock faces, caves and tidal pools. Lightweight watersports helmets are worn whilst Coasteering for obvious reasons.
