Your First Surf Lesson – What to Expect

DIscover what really happens on a surf lesson…

What really happens when you attend a Surf Lesson?

Making the choice to join a surf lesson is an important decision that certainly starts your surfing career off in the right direction.

Learning to surf or even developing your surf skills can be a long drawn out process for most.  It seems that unless you’re lucky enough to start surfing at a young age or have plenty of time to donate to your new favourite hobby, reaching that goal can prove to be a frustrating road to success.

It’s been said Surfing is either. rich man’s sport or a lazy man’s sport – either way you’re going to need lots of free time to learn to surf & getting your first surfing lesson is a big step in the right direction.

The good news is, given enough time in the water your surfing will improve over time.  To give yourself that little boost to get ahead of the curve, taking a few tips from a dedicated and qualified surf coach can really give you that edge and gets you understanding and practising correct techniques that are proven to work.  Surf Lessons Cornwall are a great way to get to grips with the basics.

Your First Surf Lesson

Theres a whole host of options for surf lessons.  From beginners surf weeks in Bali to advanced courses in Portugal the aspiring surfer has plenty of options ahead of them. Typically your first time in the water with a surf coach should resemble something similar to the below.

Group Surf Lesson:

These are the “bread and butter” for surf schools. Group surf lessons are a great and inexpensive way to get some surf instruction. Most lessons are around 2 hours long, include all the equipment and are generally pitched at an absolute beginner level.

Group surf lessons tend to be a real mix match of surfer wanna be’s, groups of friends, kids and folks that just want to give it a go, all mixed up in a fun, friendly and safe environment.  Perfect if you want to see what all the fuss is about.

Typically you’ll get an introduction to basic surfboard knowledge, beach safety and some simple principles in how to get to your feet and ride a white water wave to the shore. As simple as it may sound, accomplishing this is no easy task and can equal in levels of fun and frustration before your first wave is ridden to the shore.
